Directory

The BBMRI-ERIC-Directory is a centralised list of biobanks and their collections. On this page you will find a step-by-step guide to registration, answers to frequently asked questions about registering biobanks and two video tutorials.

Registration/Login

1) Log in ("Sign in" top right) at directory.bbmri-eric.eu.

2) You will be given several options for logging in.

  • If your institution is listed in the German Research Network (DFN), you can select your institution via the input field to authenticate yourself as usual with your institute account (submit & accept).

Or:

  • If you do not have a DFN account, select the "LifeScience Hostel" button to create a Hostel IdP account and use it to register. After clicking on the "Sign up" link, enter your name, e-mail, password selection and institution & "submit".

3) You will receive a registration e-mail (please check your spam folder if necessary), which you can use to finalise your registration.

4) In order to be authorised to edit the directory after the successful registration process, log in to the directory again completely (so that "Sign out" is displayed at the top right) and contact germanbiobanknetwork@charite.de by e-mail. You will then receive editor rights from the office.

5) Click on the link https://signup.aai.lifescience-ri.eu/fed/registrar/?vo=bbmri and then on the Submit button.

Answers to frequently asked questions about the directory entry

To create your biobank, select the "Biobank" tab in the menu. Click on the plus button to open a form in which you can enter the information about your biobank.

No spaces may be used for the IDs!

There are three cases here: Contacts, Biobank and Collection.

  • Contacts: bbmri-eric:contactID:DE_KDEB (the ID should be unique and easy to find)
  • Biobank: bbmri-eric:ID:DE_KDEB (KDEB stands for the "abbreviation of your own biobank" and must be replaced by your own abbreviation)
  • Collection: bbmri-eric:ID:DE_KDEB:collection:STUDIE-XY (also here: replace STUDIE-XY with your own study name abbreviation)

Under the "Collections" tab, you can describe the collections of your biobank in more detail. Each biobank must specify at least one collection.

For your contact information, select the "Contacts" tab and create the contact for your biobank by clicking on the plus button.

GBN, for example, is one such network. Other networks can be entered, otherwise this field can be left blank.

In order to optimally serve search queries, the fields of the search parameters should also be defined in addition to the fields marked with *: "Diagnosis Available", "Sample Materials", "Access Policy" and "Quality".

To make the certifications or accreditations of your biobank or collection visible, please send a copy of the documentation of the certificate to germanbiobanknetwork@charite.de. Your information will be forwarded to the QM offices of BBMRI-ERIC, where it will be verified and entered in the directory as a "Quality Label".

Further questions can be answered in the Data Manager Manual, which you can find under this link. If you have any questions, you can also contact IT Coordinator Zohaib Hassan(zohaib.hassan@charite.de) or the BBMRI-ERIC IT Helpdesk(it@heldpdesk.bbmri-eric.eu).
