The Central Biobank Magdeburg (ZBIOBMD) is the central facility for the collection, processing and storage of human samples at the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. As a core facility, it is part of the Centre for Medical Reseach Infrastructure (ZMF) and supports the Faculty's biomedical research.

The biobank is currently under construction. The plan is for it to be fully operational in the new building from 2029. The organisational, structural and IT foundations are already being laid in the planning phase to ensure the highest standards of quality, security and data management.

The Central Biobank Magdeburg provides human biological samples for clinical and translational studies. The samples are collected, processed, stored and kept for the long term in a standardised manner. A particular focus is placed on quality management, standardised processes and compliance with ethical and data protection standards.

As an observer member of the German Biobank Network (GBN), the biobank is involved in the national exchange of experience and is guided by proven best practices. The facility thus makes an important contribution to research and to the sustainable strengthening of scientific excellence at the Faculty of Medicine Magdeburg.
