Clinical trials are often complex and involve many organisational requirements. The NUM Study Network therefore supports researchers throughout the entire trial process. But how does a clinical trial actually work?
1. At the start of every trial, researchers must clarify what they hope to learn – in other words, the specific research question they wish to answer. Once the objectives have been defined, the next step is to identify suitable methods to answer the research question.
💡 The NUM Study Network supports researchers right from this stage by providing access to methodological advice and offering assistance via digital tools, such as feasibility assessments, as early as the planning phase of studies.
2. The well-being of patients taking part in a clinical trial is the top priority. Independent ethics committees in Germany therefore review all trials in advance to ensure that participants’ safety, rights and health are protected. They also check whether the trial has been planned appropriately and whether participants are provided with clear information about the risks and objectives.
💡 The NUM Study Network therefore offers access to a digital tool that assists with the creation and compilation of the necessary ethics documentation.
3. Numerous parties are often involved in the implementation of a clinical trial – from the financial sponsor to the individual trial centres, which jointly collect and analyse the data. Lengthy contract negotiations between the parties involved can significantly delay the start of trials.
💡 That is why the NUM Study Network helps to quickly identify the right partners. Pre-agreed, standardised contract clauses ensure that contracts are finalised more quickly and trials can start sooner, enabling new therapies to be put into practice at an earlier stage.
4. Any clinical trial can only be carried out if enough suitable patients can be found who are willing to take part in the trial.
💡 Here, too, the NUM Study Network supports researchers by identifying suitable patients via a digital tool, which enables more potential trial participants to be approached about taking part in a trial.
The NUM Study Network supports clinical trials from the initial idea through to publication.
