What are specialty networks?

The specialty networks are an essential part of the NUM Study Network. Whilst the NUM Study Network, as an overarching infrastructure, provides the technical, organisational and legal foundations, the specialty networks act as its recruitment platforms.

Our specialty networks are thematically focused and centrally coordinated research networks that bring together in-depth expertise in specific disease areas. This offers various advantages:

  • efficient and coordinated conduct of multicenter trials
  • improved patient recruitment for disease-specific trials across Germany
  • harmonisation of protocols, tools and data standards
  • nationwide development of best practices and effective clinical research methods
  • promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and methodological innovation
  • rapid deployment and responsiveness

Our specialty networks

Three specialty networks have already been successfully launched within the NUM Study Network, and the plan is to establish further specialty networks in the coming years.

The Specialty Network Infectious Diseases has been in existence since July 2024. It supports clinical and clinical-epidemiological studies in the field of infectious diseases.
