What we offer

The NUM Study Network (NUM SN) is a nationwide, digitally supported infrastructure that aims to significantly reduce administrative hurdles for clinical researchers, thereby freeing up valuable time for them to focus on what they are passionate about – their research. Within NUM, the NUM Study Network acts as the hub for the acceptance, initiation and recruitment preparation of clinical and clinical-epidemiological studies.

The focus is on clear responsibilities, standardised processes and collaborative networks of experts to provide administrative support for clinical trials.

We’ll set sail for your clinical trial and, together with our crew, support you in reaching your destination. You’re the captain. We’re your crew.

The NUM Study Network as your compass through the administrative waters of a study:

  • Network of trial centres: We offer you structured access to a large network of well-organised trial centres with defined processes, clear response times and tried-and-tested procedures, so that you can navigate your trial safely and efficiently
  • Clear responsibilities: Thanks to our straightforward communication structures, you’ll always know who your point of contact is
  • Harmonised contract management: We speed up the contract conclusion process through harmonised contract templates across the network, whilst at the same time taking the burden off you when it comes to managing your contracts
  • Digital tools: We provide you with modern and automated tools for the various processes involved in your study, ensuring you have the right digital partner by your side at all times
  • Networks of experts: Your study will be carried out within our specialist networks by experienced and highly motivated professionals whose expertise guarantees the high quality of your research

Overview of our services at sea:

Types of studies supported:

The NUM Study Network, together with its specialist networks, supports the initiation of prospective clinical and clinical-epidemiological studies:

  • Phase III & IV interventional studies
  • Non-interventional studies
  • Case-control studies
  • Cohort studies
  • Cross-sectional studies

Support for Phase I and II interventional studies can also be provided on request.

Type of funding:

Both academic and industry-sponsored research projects are very welcome. It is important that you secure the funding required to carry out your study.

If you do not yet have funding, we will put you in touch with our partners (study centres and infrastructure providers) to help you put together your research proposal. Please contact our initial point of contact: erstkontaktstelle@sn.netzwerk-universitaetsmedizin.de

Study centres:

Our portfolio of study centres currently comprises German university hospitals. We are working to expand our reach to include ports in other sectors in the future.

International waters:

We’ll help you connect with national study centres. It doesn’t matter whether your study focuses solely on national study centres or ventures into waters worldwide.

Our expert networks:

With our specialist networks, you have a reliable expert by your side who will support you in bringing your study to a successful and quality-assured conclusion. You benefit from motivated and experienced teams at our study centres, who support your study through established and quality-assured processes. This includes, amongst other things, identifying and recruiting study participants, carrying out study interventions, collecting biological samples and documenting research data at the centre.

Contract Management:

One of our key objectives within the NUM Study Network is to support you as much as possible when finalising contracts. To this end, we have developed contract templates for site agreements in collaboration with our sites, which are already accepted by them. All you need to do is add the trial-specific details to your template.

To provide you with logistical support, our network coordination team will assist you with organising the contracts. Predefined response times for comments and signatures form part of our trial centres’ service profile. They guarantee that contracts are finalised promptly.

You are, of course, free to use your own contract template. Unfortunately, in that case, we cannot guarantee a swift conclusion of the contract.

When is the right time to get in touch with us?

In principle, you can contact us at any time and we will work with you to identify which components are still missing.

Ideally, you will have already planned the content of your study. We’ll then be happy to help you approach your partner study centres and connect you with any missing infrastructure components.

How do you get started?

You can submit your study enquiry to our initial contact point at any time: erstkontaktstelle@sn.netzwerk-universitaetsmedizin.de

Funding for the NUM Study Network

The NUM Study Network is a Research Infrastructure funded by NUM.

During an initial funding period from July 2024 to June 2025, the NUM Study Network was funded as part of NUM 2.01, made possible by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). During this phase, we established and tested our network structures and launched our first specialist network.

The current funding under NUM 3.02 runs until June 2030. Until then, we will continue to develop the established network structures and steadily expand the specialist networks in order to continue successfully conducting academic and commercial studies via the NUM Study Network.
