The biobank, BBMUL - CT, is a core facility currently under construction that will establish biobanking at the newly founded Medical University of Lausitz - Carl Thiem in Cottbus and centralise it in the long term. The first stage of expansion will see the creation of a liquid biobank, which will be gradually expanded to include additional sample types and functions. The facility is currently in the conception and implementation phase, in which infrastructural, organisational and quality assurance foundations are being created. The aim is to establish an efficient, growth-orientated biobank that will sustainably support clinical research projects and the development of the Lusatia health model region.

On the data side, the biobank will be supported by the Cottbus Data Integration Centre (DIZ). This will ensure the implementation of the processes and standards envisaged in medical informatics as well as communication with national structures such as the research data portal for health. Both institutions thus provide complementary support for medical research.
