The CentralBiobankof the Charité(ZeBanC) is a joint core facility of the Charité and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIG). A wide variety of biosamples such as tissue, blood, cerebrospinal fluid and their derivatives are collected, processed and stored at the three Charité sites. The samples are linked to medical information and made available for research projects (internal and external) to improve the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The relevant legal and ethical framework conditions are taken into account.

Since 2016, ZeBanC has provided space for several million biosamples in a newly constructed building, which can be stored at various temperatures and processed according to the latest standards. The samples come from hospital operations as well as internal and external Charité studies. Since February 2019, ZeBanC has been responsible for the sample management and storage ofTransbiolinean extensive European study funded by the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) with several million euros. ZeBanC has a structured quality management system and has been certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 since January 2017.
