The RWTH cBMB is the central biomaterial bank (cBMB) of the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen, a maximum care hospital with 36 clinics and 28 institutes. The cBMB collects and processes a wide variety of biosamples such as blood, urine and tissue to high quality standards.
The aim of the cBMB is to support research projects with a focus on oncological, cardiological and neurological diseases.
The current 338,151 aliquots (as at 1 September 2023) are stored in liquid nitrogen tanks or -80°C refrigerators. The cBMB's strict quality management ensures optimal processes from semi-automated sample processing and storage to preparation and distribution for research purposes in compliance with all data protection guidelines and is supported by a centralised biosample management system (CentraXX) and its own IT infrastructure. The cBMB thus offers an ideal basis for the close networking of the sample and data pool within the German Biobank Alliance (GBA).
