At the RACOONHackathon 2025 in Berlin, the RACOON community solved problems together, developed new ideas, learnt from each other, laughed a lot and once again showed what is possible when motivated minds come together. The personal dialogue between the RACOON computer scientists was particularly valuable. After weeks and months of digital collaboration, it was a highlight to meet up live, tinker together and feel the team spirit in such a creative atmosphere. The next hackathon will take place from 4-6 February 2026 in Berlin.
On 28 and 29 October this year, RACOON will be hosting the free event "RACOON Rocket & Science" in Erlangen. The presentations and discussions will focus on topics such as Artificial Intelligence in Radiology & Imaging and the RACOON sub-projects (Oncology & Emergency Medicine). The target group includes researchers, doctors, computer scientists and technology partners. CME points have been applied for participation.

RACOON project manager Prof Dr Bernd Hamm was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon. As Director of Radiology at Charité for many years and an internationally committed scientist, Prof Hamm has significantly shaped radiology in research, teaching and patient care over the course of his career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, together with the UK Frankfurt, he initiated the radiological network RACOON in the NUM, which made a decisive contribution to the nationwide assessment of lung progression and has since networked all university radiology departments in Germany for the first time in order to facilitate multicentre studies.
In his current editorial in European Radiology , Prof Hamm emphasises how important independent research is for medical progress and a strong democracy. His appeal: science thrives on freedom, curiosity and critical thinking, but this freedom cannot be taken for granted and must be actively protected.
