The Professional Association of German Pathologists (BDP) has published an updated S1 guideline for the performance of autopsies in pathology:
S1 guideline for autopsies
It sets an important standard for standardised autopsy practice and for the structured documentation of results - including the integration of the core data set of the National Autopsy Registry (NAREG). NAREG forms the electronic backbone of NATON, the NUM Platform for Autopsies and Pathology.
The guideline was developed by an interdisciplinary group of experts from pathology, neuropathology, forensic medicine and NATON representatives and is supported by all relevant professional associations. The S1 guideline also benefited greatly from numerous valuable comments from the members of the BDP's post-mortem examination commission and from constant coordination by the BDP's office.
The publication once again emphasises the importance of networked autopsy expertise. As the first guideline to be developed in collaboration with the Research Infrastructure NATON, the mutual complementarity of research and practice becomes clear.
