At the invitation of CRC 1648 ‘Emerging Viruses: Pathogenesis, Structure, Immunity’, NATON project manager Kristina Allgoewer delivered the keynote speech on 25 February 2026 as part of the Scientific Afternoon at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology on the campus of the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg. In her presentation, titled „The Role of Collaborative Autopsy Research in Understanding Infectious Diseases and Their Consequences“, she emphasised the crucial role of collaborative autopsy research for a deeper understanding of infectious diseases, highlighting in particular the need to investigate the pathophysiology of viral haemorrhagic fevers, for which, in many cases, neither vaccines nor specific therapeutics exist.
