Today, 43 biobanks and the German Cancer Research Centre Heidelberg (DKFZ) are active in the GBN as an IT development centre. Together, they work according to uniform quality standards and utilise a networked IT infrastructure that makes biosamples and data available throughout Europe.

With its integration into the NUM, the GBN directly supports cross-site research:

  • Researchers can search for and request biosamples and associated data centrally.
  • Standardised quality standards create comparability.
  • As part of the BBMRI-ERIC, the GBN is integrated into the European research landscape and provides researchers with access to international resources.
