On 13 August 2026, the first patient was enrolled in the Stroke Specialist Network cohort at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. A week later, the first patient was enrolled at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE).
The ‘First Patient In’ marks an important step towards establishing a nationwide infrastructure for clinical and clinical-epidemiological studies. The aim is to gain a better understanding of, and to bring about sustainable improvements to, the care of people with stroke and intracerebral haemorrhage (bleeding within the brain tissue) across the entire care pathway.
The launch of the cohort is the result of an intensive planning and set-up phase and the great commitment of numerous stakeholders in the Stroke Expert Network and the NUM Study Network.
The Stroke Specialist Network within the NUM Study Network is driving forward clinical trials in the field of stroke prevention and treatment.
