Update | New infrastructure in the NUM: Stroke Study Network launched

Kick-off meeting of the stroke study network

First Scientific Advisory Board Meeting of the Stroke Study Network

With the launch of the NUM Study Network Stroke, a new, Germany-wide Research Infrastructure for the improvement of stroke care is being created in the NUM Study Network. The network is being set up as part of the NUM and will be managed by the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

The aim is to conduct clinical trials more efficiently and to bring new therapies into care more quickly. The entire treatment process is considered, from emergency care through therapy and rehabilitation to aftercare, including paediatric strokes.

At the end of April, around 40 people involved in the stroke study network met in person for the kick-off meeting in Hamburg.

On the fringes of the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2026 in Maastricht, the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Stroke Study Network then met for its first meeting on 7 May.

Ten university sites and five sites with a focus on paediatric stroke are participating at the start. An expansion is planned.

The centrepiece is the "Stroke-CORE" cohort study, which will follow patients across all phases of care from June 2026 and provide important data for future studies.

A dedicated sub-website of the stroke study network will go online soon.
