The Professional Association of German Pathologists (BDP) has published an updated S1 guideline on conducting autopsies in pathology.
It sets an important standard for consistent autopsy practice and for the structured documentation of results – including the integration of the NAREG core dataset.
The guideline was developed by an interdisciplinary group of experts from the fields of pathology, neuropathology, legal medicine and NATON representatives, and is supported by all relevant professional societies. The S1 guideline also benefited greatly from numerous valuable comments from members of the BDP’s Autopsy Commission and from constant coordination by the BDP’s secretariat.
The publication once again underlines the importance of networked autopsy expertise. As the first guideline to be developed with the involvement of the NATON research infrastructure, which is funded by the Network University Medicine, it clearly demonstrates how research and practice complement one another.
