Recruitment for PENGUIN has begun: 18 patients have been enrolled

Recruitment for the multicentre observational study PENGUIN has begun. The first participant was enrolled on 10 September 2026. As of 6 October 2026, 18 patients are already taking part in the study.

PENGUIN is investigating, at German Academic Medical Centres, how a suspected penicillin allergy can be reliably assessed and, where appropriate, removed from the patient’s medical records. The aim is to improve patient care, avoid unnecessary or less suitable antibiotics, and thereby reduce antibiotic resistance. The study will also investigate whether verifying and, where appropriate, removing the allergy diagnosis improves the quality of life of those affected.
