On 20 May 2026, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) presented the first technology roadmaps of the High-Tech Agenda Germany on behalf of the Federal Government.
The NUM plays a central role in the biotechnology roadmap. The joint national competence network of academic medical centres is intended to make excellent quality of care available throughout Germany and not just at individual centres of excellence.
The defined milestones show the joint ambition:
- By 2026: Development and provision of R&D infrastructures for all German academic medical centres
- By 2030: Germany among the top 3 locations worldwide for clinical trials
- By 2030: Broad access to quality-assured human biosamples and relevant data
- By 2030: Significantly improved access to innovative therapies through greater involvement of patients in clinical trials
These goals emphasise the importance of networked research and care structures for the medicine of the future.
