With the launch of the Stroke Specialist Network in the NUM Study Network, a new, Germany-wide Research Infrastructure is being created to improve stroke care. The network is being set up as part of the NUM and managed by the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
The aim is to conduct large clinical trials more efficiently and to bring new therapies into care more quickly. The entire treatment process is considered, from emergency care through therapy and rehabilitation to aftercare, including paediatric strokes.
Ten university locations and five others focusing on paediatric stroke are participating at the start. An expansion is planned. The centrepiece is the "Stroke-CORE" cohort study, which will follow patients across all phases of care from June 2026 and provide important data for future studies.
