Article in the 'Deutsches Ärzteblatt': Academic research and industry

How is collaboration between academic research and industry changing? A recent article in the 'Deutsches Ärzteblatt' examines the opportunities and challenges of industry partnerships, whilst also focusing on the role of biobanks and new research infrastructures.

Dr Alexandra Stege, Dr Ronny Baber and Ralf Heyder – key figures from the Network University Medicine (NUM), the German Biobank Network (GBN) and the Biobank Platform for Germany (BPD) – share their views.

The discussion addresses the question of how collaborations between academia and industry can be successfully structured. Alexandra Stege emphasises: “Both partners should contribute their respective expertise and work together on a research question. A successful collaboration requires an exchange on an equal footing – with clear framework conditions and transparent expectations.”
