About NAREG

The National Autopsy Registry NAREG emerged from the German COVID-19 autopsy registry (DeRegCOVID) , which was founded in April 2020 to centrally collect information on autopsies of COVID-19 patients. It has contributed significantly to the understanding of the disease and has been recommended by international experts as a model structure for Europe and the world.

ACQUISITION

The centralised recording of all autopsies is intended to facilitate autopsy-driven research. An autopsy register enables access to disease-, organ- or trauma-specific data and biosamples, which is particularly important for new or rare diseases.

SUPPORT

Structured, annotated and curated data on autopsied deceased persons are available in NAREG. This data can be made available by the individual centres for other studies. The registry thus acts as an intermediary between autopsy centres and researchers.

USE

The registry promotes interdisciplinary co-operation and inclusion of pathology, neuropathology and forensic medicine in Germany. Established communication channels enable the rapid dissemination of information and data within the network.

Current status

The register is not yet live. A favourable ethics vote has already been received, but final approval by the data protection authorities is still pending. As soon as this has been granted, the relevant information and documents will be published here.
