Steering Committee newly elected for 2026-27

The German Biobank Network (GBN) has elected a new 12-member Steering Committee (SC) for the 2026-2027 term of office. The SC regularly discusses the concerns of the network and makes decisions on further development. The following candidates were elected by the partner and observer biobanks of the GBN

  • Dr Gabriele Anton (Biobank Ostwestfalen-Lippe of the University of Bielefeld),
  • Dr Ronny Baber (Leipzig Medical Biobank),
  • Dr Alexander Brobeil (BioMaterialBank Heidelberg)
  • Dr Daniel Brucker (Interdisciplinary Biomaterial and Database Frankfurt),
  • Prof Dr Thomas Illig (Hannover Unified Biobank),
  • Prof Dr Roland Jahns (Interdisciplinary Biomaterial and Database Würzburg),
  • PD Dr Dr Michael Kiehntopf (Integrated Biobank Jena),
  • Dr Romy Kirsten (Integrated Biobank Mannheim),
  • Prof Dr Alexandra Nieters (Freeze Biobank Freiburg),
  • PD Dr Sara Nußbeck (Central Biobank UMG Göttingen)
  • and Dr Alexandra Stege (Central Biobank Charité/BIH, Berlin).

In the first quarter of 2026, the 12 members will elect a board from among themselves. This board will consist of three people - a spokesperson (National Node Director) and two deputies.
