Some good news ahead of the summer break!

Dear colleagues,
Dear NUM community,

Before many of you head off for your well-deserved summer break, we would like to share two pieces of particularly positive news from the SN CritCare project with you:

Ethics approval granted for the SN CritCare observational cohort

The ethics approval from the Würzburg Ethics Committee has been received. A key feature is the jointly developed inclusion process – supported by the Ethics Committee – for acutely incapacitated patients in prospective observational studies (substitute consent within 28 days). The project management team will now actively contact all sites to tackle the next steps together (submission to the local Ethics Committee in accordance with the ‘One Study, One Vote’ principle).

ADAPT-LUNG has been awarded funding

The second piece of news could hardly have been better either: funding for ADAPT-LUNG (our first use case: an adaptive platform trial for patients with acute respiratory failure) has been approved. All university hospitals will be able to recruit patients for this trial! Further information will follow shortly.

What’s next?

The observational cohort will start after the summer holidays, whilst recruitment for ADAPT-LUNG will begin in January – or earlier if necessary.

Finally, the most important point: this success would not have been possible without the close collaboration between disciplines and professions. We would like to express our sincere thanks for this.

We wish you all a wonderful summer!
