The Interdisciplinary Biomaterial and Database Würzburg (ibdw) is a joint institution of the University of Würzburg and the University Hospital of Würzburg. Its aim is to systematically collect and store liquid and solid biosamples with broad consent in accordance with the highest quality standards (OECD/ISBER recommendations 2012 & 2014). The samples are acquired from outpatients and inpatients at all clinics of the University Hospital of Würzburg.
The ibdw also sees itself as a co-operation partner and service provider for the storage and management of study-specific biosamples from academic institutions and clinics of the Medical Campus Würzburg and national collaborative projects. In the future, analytical services will also be provided for local and national academic institutions or third parties (including the pharmaceutical industry).
Access to the samples and the associated analytical and clinical core data of the donors is possible for local, national and international applicants in compliance with all ethical standards and applicable data protection laws. The interdisciplinary and integrative approach of the biobank makes it an internationally competitive service and method platform for basic and clinical research.
