The biobank of the Institute of Epidemiology at the HMGU currently stores around 1 million biosamples from more than 50,000 people. The focus is on epidemiological studies and liquid samples such as serum, plasma, urine, saliva, DNA and stool. The centrepiece of the biobank is KORA (Cooperative Health Research in the Augsburg Region), a population-based cohort that has been collecting biosamples for more than 30 years. The central biosample repository of the NAKO health study is also located at the HGMU.
