New publication: Autonomous ultrasound robot for legal medicine

A new paper from our network has been published in the IEEE Access journal:

A team of researchers from the Institute of Legal Medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and the Hamburg University of Technology has developed an AI-based mobile robot system capable of performing ultrasound examinations on the deceased entirely autonomously. The system localises the body, identifies relevant anatomical target structures (e.g. organs, vessels), independently plans the scan path and produces reproducible ultrasound images. The results from phantom tests and initial applications in post-mortem practice demonstrate the feasibility of the approach. In addition to assisting with injury documentation, the technology also opens up prospects for use in telemedicine and in infectious environments where contact-minimising diagnostics are advantageous.
