The Interdisciplinary Bank of Biomaterials and Data Würzburg (ibdw) has been awarded the "Quality Label" of the European biobank network BBMRI-ERIC (Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure – European Research Infrastructure Consortium). The label confirms the high quality and reliability of the biobank as well as the alignment of its processes with international standards such as DIN EN ISO 20387.
Established biobank with high process quality
The ibdw is a joint institution of the University Hospital and the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. It provides human biosamples for medical research. A particular focus is on automation and the integration of sample collection into routine clinical processes.
Close integration of research and clinical practice
The ibdw works closely with specialised centres such as the Comprehensive Cancer Center Mainfranken (CCCM), the German Centre for Heart Failure (DZHI) and the Centre for Rare Diseases (ZESE). This enables research results to be transferred to clinical application more quickly. The biobank also supports clinical and epidemiological studies by providing comprehensive infrastructure and services along the entire process chain.

“Receiving the BBMRI-ERIC Quality Label is a proud milestone for the entire team,” says Prof. Roland Jahns, Head of the ibdw.
Andrea Wutte, Head of QM at BBMRI-ERIC, also emphasises: “The ibdw stands out for its strong integration of biobanking processes into clinical workflows and its high level of automation. These are important elements for ensuring consistency, efficiency and high-quality sample handling at scale.”
